To preface this I'm an engineer that has ...Hi,
To preface this I'm an engineer that has worked with pressure vessels.
Your first prints experienced what you might be aware are some of the issues with 3D printing pressure chambers. I'm not sure what you did to add tubing and eliminate the leaking but it seems to have worked.
One thing to keep in mind is that FEA like the one that you did in Solidworks is mainly applicable to isotropic materials, and you could very well be working with a maximum pressure (or bolt loading) drastically lower due to imperfections in the material that are natural in the printing process. If you were using an SLA printer this wouldn't be true (although the materials would not be food safe). Overall I just want you to be careful in assuming that your FEA assures the safety of your pressure vessel, and if others are printing this they should be too. This is very similar to what happened with the OceanGate submarine but reverse pressure.
Awesome project and awesome results. Love it. You would get better efficiency running the co2 to a 6:1 pressure reduction via a differential bore piston (and thereby driving air through the grounds instead for those worried about acidity) but it adds complexity. By keeping the co2 pressure up, thermodynamic conversion releases less entropy.

2) You might also find a better price point using soda stream canisters instead of airgun/tire inflaters. Plus you know that is rated for FDA standards instead of industrial gas.

Good luck!TCNJEngineerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17505525546059760169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5383282437265884241.post-12205958086139035942021-05-16T14:21:54.154-04:002021-05-16T14:21:54.154-04:00If you were to make the CNC version, perhaps the t...If you were to make the CNC version, perhaps the top part could have a handle that aligned with the bottom handle when locked - that would make it easy to rotate the top part into place. vincenziohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10001033995125210534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5383282437265884241.post-357580061175152692021-05-16T10:30:13.924-04:002021-05-16T10:30:13.924-04:00I hope you consider making finished parts availabl...I hope you consider making finished parts available with a BOM.vincenziohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10001033995125210534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5383282437265884241.post-62817078204820605252021-05-16T10:09:12.953-04:002021-05-16T10:09:12.953-04:00Perfect, thx! This was confirmed with a blind A/B test with a Breville Barista Express as well as using plain HPA to pull shots!

As for N2, as you can tell from the post I'm cheap :). I think there is a market for it: I already see it on the field with my Hario coffee grinder :-) Is the resulting espresso slightly bitter and lighter body because of the carbonated water? This is what happens to my freshly roasted beens when I'm impatient and they are still degassing. Have you considered using N2 cartridges?Suimihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17766751473146462853noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5383282437265884241.post-35177539896761647262021-04-22T19:58:01.342-04:002021-04-22T19:58:01.342-04:00Thanks! I haven't done any max pressure testing on it since it's meant to be a prototype to prove out that it's possible to extract good espresso without needing a piston or lever machine.

The next step is developing a version that would be easily cut from metal. This would likely have a much higher pressure ceiling and be much safer to operate :)Eric Changhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01207579200410448434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5383282437265884241.post-17016065526422541172021-04-21T23:47:15.875-04:002021-04-21T23:47:15.875-04:00Amazing to see this!
